Think Before You Speak

There is nothing worse than looking great on paper or in your linkedin profile only to not be a good verbal communicator.

Here is something I do with my success circle clients.

There are many types of communication. When communicating by talking (verbal) there are questions, commentary, editorials and more.

Stepping back before we answer is a good motto to hold onto. It doesn’t mean waiting so long the other party thinks we don’t understand; it’s thinking BEFORE answering.

How do we do this?

Simple: Practice

Take one breath in and out slowing while thinking first about the question and then what you want to say before saying it. With practice you’ll become a natural.

Tools: I use a set of question cards I made for my clients. They select one a day and read the question using this practice step. Then I have them write out a dozen for me!

Learning how to formulate the question helps you better communicate answers to questions.

This communication practice and tool can be used to become a better communicator in most any verbal communication style.
